High-Risk Pregnancy

A Special Collaboration with UCSF Benioff

Some pregnancies are high risk from the beginning. Others go smoothly until a sudden complication occurs. Newborns may be born too soon, or have other medical issues. That’s why Marin General Hospital forged a special collaboration with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital to provide Marin’s mothers and babies with access to the expertise and resources of one of the nation’s preeminent pediatric hospitals.

UCSF perinatologists and neonatologists work on-site at Marin General Hospital and see patients at an outpatient multispecialty practice in Marin with experts in a variety of pediatric specialties, including neonatologists. This practice also includes a prenatal diagnostic center staffed with UCSF perinatologists, maternal-fetal specialists whose goal is to keep the baby from being born prematurely unless the health of the mother and baby are at stake. Dividing their time between UCSF and Marin General Hospital, these experts monitor mother and baby throughout the high-risk pregnancy. A UCSF perinatologist is onsite 24/7 to handle emergencies. In addition, pregnant women with types 1, 2, or gestational diabetes can get special advice and supervision from the hospital’s Braden Diabetes Center.
