Dr. Basu was born and raised in Connecticut, and relocated to Marin in 2002 after completing her training on the east coast. Dr. Basu has worked in private practice, served as the Chairman of Medicine at Marin General Hospital. Dr. Basu currently lives in San Rafael with her husband and children.
Dr. Boero has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology since 2003 . In 2005, with the help of Dr. Gerald Wilner, she opened a private practice of her own in Larkspur - a career long goal. Dr. Boero took a break from her busy and thriving practice in 2008 to start a family, and is happy to have returned to practice refreshed and excited to take care of women and their families. Dr. Boero looks forward to re-uniting with former patients and meeting new ones. She feels very privileged to have landed among the dedicated group of doctors at Prima.
Elizabeth Brown, DO, is a Board Certified OBGYN with a special interest in minimally invasive procedures and high-risk obstetrics. Dr. Brown received her undergraduate degree at UC Irvine in neurobiological sciences, graduated from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed her residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Dr. Brown combines her special interest in women’s health and office based procedures with a personalized approach to medicine. She is dedicated to her patients and seeks to develop long-term partnerships with them in order to best support their health needs through the various stages of their lives. When not practicing, Dr. Brown is always looking for her next adventure. Her travels are inspired by her ever-evolving bucket list. She has climbed Machu Picchu, Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc Circuit, seen the wildebeest migration and Pyramids of Giza, and ran with the bulls in Pamplona. Although her passion for the outdoors is great, her devotion to her patients is stronger and she couldn’t be happier to be back in Northern California, living with her husband and practicing in Marin County.
Dr. Cardellini practices obstetrics and gynecology as part of Prima Medical Group. Her special interests include contraceptive management, adolescent gynecology, minimally invasive surgery, high risk obstetrics, and infertility.
Dr. Suzanne Christie attended Georgetown University as an undergraduate and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. After graduating, she spent two years teaching high school science at a boarding school on the east coast before returning to Georgetown for medical school. Born and raised in Marin County, she was eager to return to California and chose to complete her internship and residency in pediatrics at Stanford. After residency, she joined the Menlo Clinic in Menlo Park and practiced general pediatrics for four years until her move back to Marin in 2000. In Marin, she worked at the Pediatric After Hours Clinic and Mill Valley Pediatrics before joining Prima Kids in 2006. Dr. Christie is Board Certified in Pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is passionate about her work with children and their families. Committed to promoting the general health and well being of her patients, she particularly enjoys counseling families about issues of child development and nutrition. As a mother of four, she brings a very practical and common sense approach to her practice and understands first hand many of the concerns facing young families and their children today. In her spare time she can be found enjoying the outdoors with her husband and their school-aged children.
Lisa received her Masters degree from University of California, San Francisco in 1997 and has been providing full-scope midwifery care since that time. Her first job out of midwifery school was in a community health center and hospital in Chicago attending both home and hospital births for a diverse population. After the birth of her first child, Lisa returned to the Bay Area. She has worked in Bay Area hospitals since her return. Lisa is passionate about providing care to women of all cultural and economic backgrounds. Fluent in Spanish, she is committed to providing culturally sensitive midwifery care to our Latina population in Marin and the surrounding area. Lisa truly believes that women — with support, guidance and the opportunity to make choices about their care—can find and appreciate their own internal strength during the birth process. She is grateful for the opportunity to be present for the building of family and community. When not at work she enjoys spending time with her three boys, traveling, hiking and spending time at the beach.
Dr. DeMuth grew up in a small town outside of Phoenix and has been in private practice in Marin since 1988. He shared a practice with Dr. Lois Levine for 21 years and after her retirement in 2010, joined Prima Medical Group. Dr. DeMuth is interested in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Outside of work, his interests are mainly with his family (including a son and granddaughter) and music. Dr. DeMuth is active in a couple of bands, including the Starduster Orchestra, a 16 piece big band.
Dr. Etemad practices family medicine at Prima Medical Group. She is skilled in osteopathic manual medicine and has particular interests in women and children's health, sports medicine, and adolescent medicine.
Dr. Finzen is a Board Certified internist who cares for patients from late adolescence through geriatrics. Her special interests include preventive medicine and Geriatrics. Dr. Finzen came to California in 1980 to do her internship and residency and has resided in Marin County since 1984. She has three grown children and enjoys tennis, hiking, and traveling with her husband.
Dr. Flores has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Greenbrae for the past 20 years. She was a psychotherapist in the Bay Area for almost 5 years before pursuing her interest in medicine. She traveled extensively in Venezuela and the Amazon to study women's health care and tropical medicine. Dr. Flores enjoys traveling, cooking, gardening, tennis, and dance of all kinds (especially ballet and tango).
David Galland is a board certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist practicing in Larkspur for the past 29 years. He is a member of the American Association for Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the North American Menopause Society, the American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, attended the L’Universite Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, and received his MD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine. After enduring several winters in Rochester, NY, he did his internship and residency at UCLA. Dr. Galland grew up in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Marin in 1982 to join his lifelong family friend, Gerald Wilner, in private practice. In January 2011, after delivering nearly 6000 babies, he decided to concentrate his practice on gynecology and his passion for minimally invasive surgery. He no longer does obstetrics. An innovative physician, Dr. Galland was the first Ob-Gyn in Marin County to do in office ultrasound, pioneered operative hysteroscopy in Marin and was the first Marin gynecologist to be certified to use the DaVinci surgical robot for minimally invasive gynecologic surgeries. He is a former Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Marin General Hospital (MGH), a former member of the Board of Directors of MGH, currently the Chairperson of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and a member of the Performance Improvement Committee of MGH. He is a founder and current Governing Board Member of the Marin Specialty Surgery Center in Greenbrae. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF Medical School and enjoys teaching medical students. Dr. Galland has been selected three times, by his peers, as one of the Best Doctors in the Bay Area and this year was selected by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top doctors in America. Dr. Galland is fluent is Spanish and French. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading, yoga, gardening, cultivating orchids and spending time with his family.
Jane has been a midwife since 1991 and has taken care of moms and babies in Marin for the past 24 years. Born and raised in San Francisco, she moved with her family to Central America at age 12. That experience awakened in her a lifelong passion for travel and exploring new cultures. Jane earned a degree in theater, and her involvement in community arts sparked an interest in community health projects. While living in Ireland in the early 80’s, she became acutely aware of gaps in women’s health care and education and was inspired to return to the US in order to study women’s health. She received her nursing degree at the University of Pennsylvania, where she discovered midwifery as her calling. After working as a labor and delivery nurse in Philadelphia, she returned to California to study midwifery at USC-LA County Hospital, where she became a staff member and clinical instructor. In 1994, Jane returned to her roots in the Bay Area to study at UC Berkeley where she obtained her MPH. Jane joined Prima in 2011. She is fluent in Spanish and when she isn’t traveling, she enjoys spending her free time in the garden.
Carly Hwang is a San Francisco Bay Area Native. She received her master degree from Yale University. Prior to joining Prima, she worked in New York City at NYU Medical Center. She is delighted to be back on the West Coast, and working in beautiful Marin County. Carly recognizes that the transformation to parenthood is much more than simply the birth alone. She enjoys working with women and their families to have an integrated, and empowered pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. Carly believes in shared decision making, recognizing that while she has formal training in Midwifery, the people she cares for are the experts in their own bodies and their own specific physical, emotional, and informational needs. In addition to being a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, Carly has completed further studies to become a Certified Lactation Counselor, and can offer guidance for the breast feeding mother. Carly lives in San Francisco, with her partner. She enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, cooking, hiking, yoga, and reading. She also loves a day time dance party.
Dr. Jaeger grew up in Wisconsin. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in biomedical engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee. She worked on a cardiac research team at Medtronic, Inc., where she attained a U.S. Patent, before attending medical school at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Jaeger then completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. Her husband’s job then brought them to Silicon Valley. Dr. Jaeger worked at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City for a few years before her family decided to move to Marin. Dr. Jaeger chose Obstetrics and Gynecology because she enjoys developing long term relationships with patients while caring for them through annual exams, pregnancy and routine gynecological care. She is passionate about and has experience in high-risk obstetrics, infertility, adolescent gynecology and minimally invasive surgery. She has a warm and caring personality and is known for her excellent bedside manner.
Dr. Kerl has been working in Primary Care Pediatrics in Marin since 1998. She values her role as an advocate for health promotion and illness prevention through good nutrition, activity and mental (emotional) health.
Elizabeth Kicko has been a nurse since 2010 and a midwife since 2014. Elizabeth believes in the science of low intervention evidence-based birth. She has worked at Marin General Hospital since 2015. In addition, she serves on the board of the California Nurse Midwives Association and is an active member of the American College of Nurse Midwives.
Dr. Koehler is Board Certified in Family Medicine and enjoys caring for patients of all ages. She focuses on preventative health and strives to provide comprehensive and compassionate care for her patients. Dr. Koehler speaks both English and Spanish. After receiving her undergraduate degree from University of California, Davis, Dr. Koehler attended medical school at Touro University in Vallejo, California. She completed her residency training in Family and Preventative Medicine at University of California, San Diego, where she also served as Chief Resident. As a National Health Service Corps Scholar, Dr. Koehler worked at the Venice Family Clinic, providing care for many of Los Angeles’ most underserved residents. She also worked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Group for before returning to Marin County with her husband and her two sons. Dr. Koehler and her family are thrilled to be back in Marin. Outside the clinic, Dr. Koehler enjoys spending time with her family, on the Dipsea trail or at spin class.
Dr. Kubrican earned his medical degree at Comenius University, Martin, Slovak Republic. After relocating to the United States, Dr. Kubrican earned a Master of Science degree from Marquette University. He accepted a position with Aurora Healthcare in Milwaukee, where he practiced family medicine and obstetrics. Dr. Kubrican was also an attending physician for family medicine residents and has been active in mentoring medical students. Dr. Kubrican’s scope of practice includes the management of common, acute and chronic conditions in patients of all ages. He performs multiple small procedures in-office. Dr Kubrican is dedicated to providing a high level of care, while working closely with patients to achieve their health goals.
Erinn has been a nurse midwife practicing in the Bay Area since 1998. Originally from New York City, Erinn began her career in 1991 as an assistant midwife at The Childbearing Center. She moved to California and received her Masters degree in Nurse-Midwifery at UCSF. Since graduation, she has worked in the Bay Area in clinics as well as attending births in homes, at birth centers, and at Marin General and San Francisco General Hospitals. In 2005, Erin founded a group prenatal care program called the Centering Pregnancy Program at Marin Maternity Services. In April 2011, Erinn joined Prima. She also serves as the OB Program Manager for Marin Community Clinics and has continued to oversee the Centering Pregnancy program. Erinn is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Dr. Matsik practices obstetrics and gynecology with Prima Women's Medical Group. She specializes in high-risk obstetrics, laparoscopic surgery, endometrial ablation, and adolescent gynecology. She also provides preventative care services such as well-woman exams, bone density screenings and mammography referrals. Her goal is to understand her patients' concerns and give personalized, attentive care in a professional manner.
Sheri grew up on the East Coast where she underwent pre-medical training as an undergraduate at Brown University. After taking a detour to study acting in London, England during her junior year, Sheri received a B.A. in Theatre Arts and lived in New York City working as an actress and playwright. In 1993, she met a midwife and was inspired by the stories of women supporting and empowering other women through the transformational experience of childbirth. She enrolled at Columbia University School of Nursing and graduated with Sigma Theta Tau honors and a Masters of Science in Nursing in 1998. In 2005, Sheri relocated to beautiful Marin. At the end of 2012, she left her long-standing job at Kaiser Redwood City to work locally. She is honored to work with Prima’s Midwives of Marin as the Prima Director of Midwifery Services. Sheri believes healthcare is a partnership between patients and providers and that physical health is intertwined with emotional needs and personal experiences. Pregnancy is an extraordinary journey and Sheri never forgets that every birth is personal and profound. Outside of MGH, Sheri has been an Adjunct Faculty member at Touro University’s Physician Assistant/MPH program, a guest lecturer for Samuel Merritt University’s Physician Assistant Program and has mentored UCSF midwifery students. She has also taught childbirth education, postpartum adjustment and is a Certified Lactation Educator. Sheri speaks limited Spanish. When she is not working, she enjoys hiking, camping, skiing, singing, eating gourmet meals with family and friends, watching her kids play soccer and practicing yoga and meditation.
Mary Newberry received her Masters degree from University of California, San Francisco in 2001 and has been working full time as a midwife in the Bay Area since that time. She has assisted in the birth of over a thousand babies, and never forgets that each that each birth is a unique and life-transforming experience for a woman and her family. Mary provides well-woman gynecological care to women across their lifespan, and aims to empower her clients with knowledge so they can make educated decisions about their health. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge of nutrition and self-care practices in order to help women return to health and remain healthy. Mary recently completed training in the Functional Medicine approach in order to enrich and expand the care that she provides. In addition to her work in both the hospital Labor and Delivery Department and her office-based practice, Mary enjoys teaching. She is a guest lecturer at various Bay Area colleges, where she speaks on midwifery and the politics of women’s healthcare. Mary is an avid traveler, yoga practitioner, backpacker, cook and want-to-be surfer. She lives in West Marin with her family.
Dr. Oliver Osborn has long-stading roots to the Marin Community having attended Redwood High School. He has been practicing family medicine in Marin since 1995.
Dr. Pathi is an urogynecologist specializing in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Pathi's area of focus includes surgical and non-surgical treatments for pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, voiding dysfunction, defecatory dysfunction, pelvic pain, and childbirth-related pelvic floor dysfunction. Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals such as Obstetrics & Gynecology, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the International Journal of Urogynecology.
Mary Redfern is a family nurse practitioner, board certified, and has been practicing in Marin County since 1993. She is also employed at City College Student Health Service. Mary obtained her Nurse Practitioner certificate from Sonoma State. Prior to becoming an NP, Ms. Redfern received her Master’s degree at UCSF in 1986 as a Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist. She had developed her interest in critical cardiac care during her 22 years at St. Mary’s Medical Center and continues this interest now in her office practice where she provides clinical expertise to patients with high blood pressure and cholesterol. Ms. Redfern enjoys working with families and individuals regarding their personal health needs. She has a warm personality and a great sense of humor. Her outside interests include ski racing and biking to offset her passion for gourmet cooking and wine appreciation.
Heather is one of the Prima Medical Foundation's Midwives who staff the Marin General Hospital Family Birth Center. With 8 years of experience, she first began working as a midwives' assistant in 1996 in Santa Cruz, CA. The philosophies of midwifery care resonated with her beliefs in the importance of education and support of women during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum periods. Heather traveled and studied Spanish in several Latin American schools including the University of Havana, Cuba. In addition to her enthusiasm for nurse-midwifery, she enjoys hiking, cooking, knitting, yoga, and spending time with her husband and 3 children.
Linda is one of the Prima Medical Medical Foundation's Midwives who staff the Marin General Hospital Family Birth Center. With over 35 years of experience, she chose this profession in order to provide a positive and supportive environment in which a new being can enter the world. She has worked in a variety of settings including private practice, and Marin County's Women's Health Services. She is actively involved in the Centering Pregnancy model of group pre-natal care and has mentored midwifery and medical students from UCSF as a clinical preceptor. She draws upon her experiences as a yoga and meditation teacher to create a peaceful environment for her patients, helping to decrease their anxiety and empower them in the moment. She is also trained in hypno-birthing. Linda and her husband had the pleasure of raising their two daughters in Mill Valley, where they currently reside with their dogs, cats, and parrots.
Dr. Sanda thoroughly enjoys primary care pediatrics and values the close relationships she develops with her patients and families. She views each encounter with her patients as an opportunity to provide education and preventative care. She has received grants to promote literacy and has managed obesity and adolescent screening programs. Dr. Sanda has an interest in pediatric behavioral medicine, adolescent health, and chronic disease management. Outside of medicine, Dr. Sanda enjoys gardening, biking and hiking with her family and is looking forward to exploring Northern California.
Loree Skidmore is a Board Certified family nurse practitioner with 28 years of experience primarily in family practice but including student, women’s and occupational health, as well as inpatient psychology. She earned her Master’s Degree at UCSF, and has special interests in women’s health, teens and mental health. When she isn’t working in the clinic, Loree teaches at Sonoma State’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program and supervises students at a Santa Rosa homeless clinic. Loree has been with her husband for 25 years. She lives in Novato and has a 21 year old daughter who will graduate from college in New York in Spring 2017. In her free time she hikes, bikes, gardens, does yoga and loves to travel.
Dr. Smith is a Board Certified pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He graduated with a BS in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering from Duke University. After a brief career in Information Technology, he earned his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC and completed his combined Pediatric Internship and Residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. During residency, he also completed a Masters of Public Health degree with a focus on Child Health Policy at UCLA. He is fluent in Spanish and conversant in French, and he appreciates being able to communicate in the language a family is most comfortable using. He sees children from the newborn period through their college years. Before coming to Sonoma, Dr. Smith practiced pediatrics for five years in rural Central Florida through the National Health Service Corps. For the next five years he was the pediatrician and Medical Director of the Sonoma Valley Community Health Center and recently served as the Chief of Staff at Sonoma Valley Hospital from July 2011 to June 2013. He also lives in Sonoma, where he sings with the Valley of the Moon Chamber Ensemble and is the father of twin boys.
Dr. Marcella Spera is a board-certified pediatrician who has been practicing since 2005 and is delighted to have joined Prima in 2015. She grew up in New York City and decided on a path of healing early in life as a way to integrate her desire to learn with her instinct to help others and her desire to support health and wholeness. She studied Liberal Arts at Sarah Lawrence College and then went on to study Medicine at Penn State University. In her 4th year she had an impactful experience during a rotation on the Zuni reservation in New Mexico that inspired her to do her residency training at the University of New Mexico. During her training she focused on caring for the underserved and went on to serve as education chief. She then made her way to California and has been practicing in the Bay Area since 2006. Throughout this time she has had a wide range of clinical experiences ranging from attending deliveries as a hospitalist to working with at-risk teenagers and volunteering abroad in Mexico, Guatemala and Haiti. She has also served on the board of the non-profit the Global Pediatric Alliance. Her professional interests include nutrition, holistic approaches to healthcare, adolescent health, patient advocacy and environmental health. Dr. Spera strives to create collaborative relationships with families to work together in promoting and protecting children’s health and well-being. She is passionate about nutrition and recently led a break-out session on sugar addiction and training children’s taste buds at the 2015 Childhood Obesity Bay Area conference.
Dr. Voss is board certified in OB/GYN and the current chairman of the department of OB/GYN at Marin General Hospital. Following many years of education, she was excited to return to Northern California (she is bay area native) where she joined Women's Medical Associates in 2003. She practices medicine with an evidence-based approach, but is open to complementary and alternative options as well. She has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery and is certified to use the DaVinci Robotic Surgical System. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Voss has a passion for medicine and is excited to be in practice with other physicians who share the same philosophy and ideals, as well as the ability to juggle both family and medicine!
Linda Wight was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, but she was raised in Northern California. Linda has spent some time living in Boston and Seattle, but has been back in California for over 17 years. Linda decided she wanted to be a nurse when she was 12 years old and had an appendectomy. After graduating from nursing school at San Jose State University, she spent her first year working in hospitals. She was drawn to Women’s Health from the start and studied to be a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner soon after becoming an RN. Linda did her Nurse Provider training at UCLA/Harbor General Hospital. Linda has thoroughly enjoyed working in Women’s Health for the over 30 years now. She finds there’s always something new to learn, great people to work with, and wonderful patients of all background who have honored her with the stories of their lives. She sees health as a dynamic process and encourages prevention as a way of life. When Linda is not working, she enjoys hiking, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family in Marin. She likes to travel and plans to do more when her two children finish college.
Dr. Wilner is a board certified Obstetric and Gynecologic physician who has been practicing in Marin for nearly 40 years. He went to Medical School at Buffalo State University, did his Internship at Maimonides Hospital of Brooklyn, and his Residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital (where he was Chief Resident). He practiced at Griffiss Air Force Base for two years and then came to Marin to practice.
Dr. Yee is a native to the San Francisco Bay Area and is excited to have returned home to practice medicine. Her clinical judgement and leadership skills allowed her opportunities to teach and lead during her training. Outside of the office, Dr. Yee enjoys playing violin, doing home renovation, experiencing with new cuisines, and being the adventurous sort.
Rachel graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2011 with a B.A. in Public Health. She worked for the Centers for Disease Control but her passion for sexual and reproductive health brought her to work at Planned Parenthood as a medical assistant. It was here she worked closely with Midwives and Nurse Practitioners and was consistently inspired by the compassionate, individualized care they provided to patients. Rachel started her midwifery journey with a love for listening to patient’s stories and providing education, a passion for all things GYN related, and a deep-seated curiosity and awe for the birth process. While she was working at Planned Parenthood, she began to volunteer as a doula at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. She quickly discovered she loved the energy around birth and supporting pregnant people through this transformative process. She is particularly passionate about working with adolescent and young adult patients as well as patients from Spanish speaking communities. Rachel graduated from the University of California, San Francisco’s Certified Nurse-Midwife/ Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program in 2017 and is excited to be part of the Prima midwives. In her free time, Rachel enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and friends, crafting, yoga, swimming, and exploring the outdoors. She loves spending time in the mountains hiking and backpacking, with Desolation Wilderness being one of her favorite places.
A third generation Bay Area native, Amelia grew up in Oakland, California. She attended San Francisco State University, and graduated in 1996 with a BA in Liberal Studies with a Sociology minor. After this, she spent several years traveling and seeking her vocation in life. She visited India, Cuba and Mexico, and took several road trips through the US. She began working at the Berkeley Free Clinic as a volunteer health care worker in 1998, where she stayed for three years before moving to El Paso, Texas. It was there that she discovered Midwifery and knew without a doubt that she had found her life’s work. In a free-standing birth center that also served as a direct-entry Midwifery training program, she learned to attend birth with little technology or medication. With this knowledge and trust in the birth process in hand, she decided to pursue her Master’s degree in Nurse Midwifery. After returning to California, she worked for several years at Planned Parenthood while completing the courses she needed to prepare for Nursing school. Here, she became well-versed in contraception and well-woman care, as well as options counseling for unplanned pregnancies. Her passion for the rights of education and choice in women’s reproductive health was fueled during these years, and remain central to her philosophy of practice. She received her Master’s degree in Midwifery and Women’s Health from the UCSF School of Nursing in 2009. Upon graduation she began to practice in a small community hospital in Davis, where she stayed for over five years. It was also in this hospital that she gave birth to her son Miles in 2012. She and her family have since returned to the Bay Area and have settled in Marin County. She is grateful and thrilled to be here and to be able to serve the women and families of the community as a Midwife. She loves working with women from diverse backgrounds and is fluent in Spanish. In her free time she loves to be with her family and friends and to hike in the hills around her home.
Jill was born in California and is proud to call San Francisco her home. She graduated from Stanford University in 2012 with a B.A. in Human Biology, as well as University Distinction, and Phi Beta Kappa honors. She spent the next several years working in schools and community clinics as a health educator, then went on to receive her B.S. in Nursing from Oregon Health & Science University in 2015. She completed her nurse-midwifery training at the University of California San Francisco, where she graduated with an M.S. in Nursing in 2017. She had the joy of completing her final nurse-midwifery residency at Marin General Hospital and the Marin Community Clinics, and has been working with the Prima midwifery group since her graduation. Jill was drawn to this group of midwives by their uniform respect for the physiology of pregnancy and birth and their dedication to providing compassionate and holistic midwifery care. She is absolutely thrilled to be a Prima midwife. Jill holds particular interest in adolescent health, group prenatal care, and the care of underserved populations. Her goal is for the women and families she works with to feel empowered by their pregnancies and births. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. Living by Ocean Beach in San Francisco, Jill spends her time outside of work surfing, hiking, exploring the California coast, reading, sewing, and drinking lots of tea.
Dr. Sareena Chopra began working at Prima Pediatrics in 2008. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania and then went on to earn her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Chopra moved to the Bay Area to complete her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Oakland. Thereafter, she worked as an outpatient pediatrician at Saint Lukes Health Care Center in San Francisco prior to joining Prima. During that time, she also attended high risk deliveries and cared for newborns in the NICU, worked as a hospitalist for pediatric patients for Stanford and supervised residents from Children’s Hospital Oakland. Dr. Chopra is a board-certified pediatrician and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is passionate about nutrition and intestinal health and the role that they play in preventing and addressing medical issues. She completed the core curriculum of the Institute for Functional Medicine to help deepen her understanding of how to address the root cause of illness. With this training, she strives to help promote the emotional and physical wellbeing of the children she sees in her practice. Dr. Chopra practices with a holistic and integrative approach and works collaboratively with families to help their children thrive. In her free time, she can be found practicing yoga, and spending time with her husband and son.
